Towards Future Telecommunication Ecosystems
The current debate about the future of telecommunications is mainly driven by various notions of the "Future Internet", including aspects like virtualization, federations, self-management etc. In this talk, we claim that the Internet will of course further increase in terms of performance, but probably won't change much as far as architecture is concerned. Instead, advances will target primarily new services, interactive user behavior, and novel types of business models. To describe this, we will discuss the holistic notion of "Communication Ecosystems" which aims at providing a joint user-centric, business-oriented and technological perspective on telecommunications at the same time. The resulting interdisciplinary research agenda is illustrated with examples from the areas of Quality of Experience, economics of interconnectivity, and pervasive user interfaces.
